The drive back to the house felt like an eternity. The highway blurred past, a constant stream of lights and shadows, mirroring the jumbled images in Thomas’s head. He and Ben had always been so close, sharing secrets and laughter since they were children. Now, after the revelation about the stolen money, everything had changed.

He gripped the steering wheel, knuckles white. The accusations swirled around him, each one a sharp jab, threatening to break him. He kept seeing Ben's face, the expression of disappointment and accusation. He felt a cold dread settle in his stomach.
